Early Silver Chalice. 292 g. Unmarked. Probably Continental and 17th Century. Chased decoration to hexagonal stemmed base. One face depicts Christ on the Cross above which the monogram 'INRL' (Iesus Nazarenus, Rex Ludaeorum, Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews). Bottom of first step has latin inscription dated 1636, with possible translated reference that might be translated loosely as 'Pray for the soul (of Christ) who through a forceful death (on the cross) He (Jesus) has made a sacred dowry to us.' And the chalice ' as a gift in 1636'.
